Counterfeit 04:40
I gotta leave this rotation and breathe exhilaration Among red sky and rock formations Soul traveling with bird migrations Live in log cabins and forget the rest Never having people to impress Won’t cellphone, won’t buy it, won’t be well dressed Live in the present and enjoy the quest Free me from counterfeit Give me a truer grip Free me from counterfeit Give me a truer grip Free me Free me From counterfeit Abandon all imitation Action without termination Travel roads across the nation Clearness in continuation Live in log cabins and forget the rest Never having people to impress Won’t cellphone, won’t buy it, won’t be well dressed Live in the present and enjoy the quest Free me from counterfeit Give me a truer grip Free me from counterfeit Give me a truer grip Free me Free me From counterfeit Yeah, I’ll strike a match and burn the blue spruce Moonlight striking a still moose Jumping fish and summer mist at dawn Good morning yawn and move along Free me from counterfeit Give me a truer grip Free me from counterfeit Give me a truer grip Free me Free me From counterfeit

Folkly Fun 03:02
Outgrew the home phone and left the safe zone I’m running wild into the unknown Into the next home What I could buy was ramen noodles Don’t need the upgrade to toaster strudels Don’t need the nice home I like this shit hole We made the weekend fireworks explode We stain our best clothes with beer and noodles Don’t want a home phone or the same zone I worked the weekdays to fill a wallet I grabbed my half-gal out of my closet Then was happy or whatever you call it We despise the days with weakest sun And blaze above the air and oxygen Minds align and days are paper mâché Thrown together until dried into place I didn’t feel free I couldn’t educate My mind to think straight Money took place of my fire I need a escape I’m an inmate and I’m in checkmate Capital mindset I need to forget I need community free of the four year degree Yeah, we can’t be the land of free thinking We despise the days with weakest sun And blaze above the air and oxygen Minds align and days are paper mâché Thrown together until dried into place

Coyote 03:29
Before we could drive, we would walk all night From bricktown streets to a beach campsite We knew the steps without flashlight Bonfire burns away black flies We chose to rave during hurricanes Our tents blown away to the coyotes Had to rest our heads on flooded ground Just to have a friend around Howling every night to the light of moon Echoing the lakeside with the red-eyed loons What gives you reason? What gives you name? The people and pines brought peace to brain We communicate up late until it’s all been said And rip the dirt road home in the truck bed Howling every night to the light of moon Echoing the lakeside with the red-eyed loons Hang out spots, pick a parking lot The meeting ground before the night unlocks A driveway jammed with a hundred cars Voices ricochet stars thoughts turn bizarre Howling every night to the light of moon Echoing the lakeside with the red-eyed loons

Sunsoak 03:58
Sungroove Wheels move Swimsuit Good mood You soothe my everything sore We cruise along salt-water shores We talk Classic rock And thoughts about Body shock Yeah honey, give me what you got Can we burn the endless clock? Let’s coast Exhaust smoke We roll with the windows down on the town grove It never gets old to sunsoak To sunsoak Shoot me with antidote Let’s take the wind and sail the boat Sunsoak Sunsoak I got the antidote Let’s take the wind and sail the boat Wrestling rounds I’m tired out Hours of town left To circle round Feeling risky Getting frisky Be with me momentarily Your energy is blue and green Reveal to me what it means Chorus (Verse 1 repeats) Let’s coast Exhaust smoke We roll with the windows down on the town grove It never gets old to sunsoak To sunsoak, to sunsoak, to sunsoak Shoot me with antidote Let’s take the wind and sail the boat

Moonshiner 04:30
Cover of "Moonshiner" by Uncle Tupelo

Freedumb 03:38
We took down a foreign crown We wiped out the forest sounds Can profit and property turn the country around? Let’s wage war Young armies will flood in for a cause that politicians spin And at gunpoint, they’re unknowing where bullets begin Freedom deceived They have families to feed Pockets to feed, putting industry above humanity Golden harvesting, killing, all for liberty The real exchange is dollar bills for bones Force thousands of native tribes from thousand year homes Rags to riches scams, build a dam, flood the land Indigenous people are suited into ties and khaki pants Your culture and land crammed into packaged cans Learn a new language, buy some khaki pants They’ll cut your hair, give you clothes to wear Your people are unmarked graves under the subway stairs You know it’s fair in polluted air Your life for power, money, glory is a tricky switch Fatal marketing pitch to rest in a 6 foot ditch Blow up battle ships while we cultivate a mix Of huge income to make us filthy rich I sat down I couldn’t figure it out I saw simpler clouds Rather than shooting rounds I respected death and the power of success I left town where there is home-like sounds And I walked the scenic route No conclusions came and the reason remained unnamed Will the world ever find its way? The real exchange is dollar bills for bones Force thousands of native tribes from thousand year homes Rags to riches scams, build a dam, flood the land Indigenous people are suited into khaki pants Your culture and land crammed into packaged cans Learn a new language, what a package plan They’ll cut your hair, give you clothes to wear Your people are unmarked graves under the subway stairs You know it’s fair in polluted air

The Vine 02:39
I was born in lies I was born for living I was born to break Or break free from spinning Steady the twist It’s a heavy vine Rupturing spines While the serpent bites It was just okay They spoke in grays Their shadows spread Perpetual shade In the folding layers Being forced to move along Ladders climbing the sky Until we’re gone On the way through age, We burnt our sage We acted unfazed when we lost our base We entered the craze and had ourselves to reshape When mazes left us lost When mazes left us lost In the grain A beer case and a head case Shook hands at a good pace Guzzling the cold until it erased Stopped answering the neighbors Stopped thanking all my saviors Left behind by the pack Left alone in the back Ungroovable Unmovable The vine can be snapped
8.
Outlook 03:48
My eyes widened like a telescope I’m seeing solar flares at a closer look The universe handed over fresh outlooks Never mind the books; there’s new spice to cook Share the full moon, don’t it feel right The people we know disappear from sight We stop and think in the turning light That’s it gone like lighting from Zeus’s strike Where are we walking? The place where it all locks in. The spot where it all feels good Where everything is where it should. We ate ramen, we slept in late Everything changed to a later date We had good food on the dinner plate The peace we found was an interstate Mind body spirit heaven hell or nothing No start no finish only the in-between No answers but being free Love and greed are both easy

Fireside, Coffeepot cranked Our heads relax as we fill up the tank She died her hair and she spoke with flow Her body tensed and let everything go Her love was a fruit fusion, a blend grooving Colorful explosions, a flavor of ocean Well-spoken body warming her eyes wide open With her every motion a blend of ocean Soul bass lines and dimmed down lights Giant glass windows and mountain views The morning comes and so does the dew We slept to connect neck to neck to cure the blues The floodgates broke, emotions became rapids Feeling and zipping until bones flipping causing tears of acid We maneuver the flood water to where the happiness happens Making love with each other, clearing cloud cover Yeah we always recover to that colorful explosion A blend of ocean

about

The Cycle was recorded in 2012, mostly in Farmington Maine with tracks like "Sunsoak" written about my then girlfriend, "Coyote" and "Outlook" written about experiences with my friends from Farmington, "Folky Fun" about the imagined experience of moving away, and "Freedumb" about my political views of capitalism, war and exploitation. When I moved to college, I recorded "Counterfeit" in the Gaines basement where the early iteration of Alpine Ghost, my band, would practice. "Moonshiner" and "The Vine" were also recorded during the fall semester. When I released it, I took some now-goofy photos, selling CDs, setting up impromptu shows, giving records out for free at parties. This was my introduction to many new faces and musical avenues.
